在雅思阅读考试中，什么词性的词汇最重要？相信80%以上的同学都会理直气壮地给出排序——当然是名词>动词>形容词>副词>介词啊！

　　那连词呢？连词？？and, but, because, if, although... 这些上初中时就知道啊，有什么了不起！北京环球教育谢晓明老师想告诉大家的是连词很重要！并且有时候比实义词还重要。

　　今天我们就以判断题中对although 的考察为例，来探讨一下小小连词在阅读解题中的大大贡献！

　　首先，大家都知道although在英文逻辑中表示"虽然"这个让步含义，它所引导的从句与主句之间是相矛盾或者相悖的关系，比如我们经常说的"虽然我很丑，但是我很温柔"，"丑"和"温柔"是感情色彩相反的两个词。

　　所以我们可以给出如下一个公式：although A(+), B(-) ，即：如果A代表好的含义，那么B就是坏的含义；如果A代表上升，B就代表下降；如果A代表大范围，B就代表小范围。

　　例如：剑5test2passage1判断题第12题" Bakelite was immediately welcomed as a practical and versatile material."其对应的文章答案句为"Baekeland's invention, although treated with disdain in its early years, went on to enjoy an unparalleled popularity which lasted throughout the first half of the twentieth century."

　　很多同学因为不知道disdain的语义而无法做出判断，但大家普遍都知道"enjoy popularity"是受欢迎的意思，代表的应该是好的、积极的含义，"unparalleled popularity"可以模糊理解为"非常受欢迎"，那么根据although A(+), B(-)这个公式，"disdain"意思应该是否定、不受欢迎。

　　那么答案句的意思也就是"Baekeland's invention"早期并不受欢迎，到后来才受到大众追捧，而题目说的是"immediately welcomed"，与原文相悖，答案为FALSE。

　　再如剑8test3passage3判断题第37题 "The wear and tear theory applies to both artificial objects and biological systems."

　　其在原文对应的答案句为"Our 'dead' products are 'static', closed systems. It is always the basic material which constitutes the object and which, in the natural course of things, is worn down and becomes 'older'. Ageing in this case must occur according to the laws of physical chemistry and of thermodynamics. Although the same law holds for a living organism, the result of this law is not inexorable in the same way."

　　这道题目难度系数教大，既考察信息总结归纳能力，又考察考生的词汇量大小，令词汇匮乏的烤鸭们痛苦不已。但是如果大家能掌握although解题公式，这道题目就可以化繁为简。

　　通过速读，我们知道前两句话在讲products "wear and tear"的原因，第三句话是对products "wear and tear"的规律总结。而解题的关键就在第四句话--"Although the same law holds for a living organism, the result of this law is not inexorable in the same way."

　　前半句说"规律同样适用于生物体"，根据公式，although前后取反，那么后半句应该是"其结果不等同"，即使你不认得inexorable这个词也没关系。

　　因此可以得出结论：wear and tear theory并不适用于生物体，题干与原文相悖，因而答案为NO。
